Capture your baby's first days in the comfort of your own home
Book a lifestyle newborn session with me, and don't miss the chance to capture every precious detail.
When should I book my photo session? Contact me as early as you are comfortable to book. I'll reserve a day for you sometime between your child's 4th and 10th day. We'll finalize the date after your baby arrives!
When should I get the pictures done? Ideally within the first 10 days, though with lifestyle newborn sessions you can book any time in the first 1-2 months (after that I recommend doing regular family photos). Just remember that older babies can't be swaddled, are more likely to need to stick to a strict schedule, and it'll be harder to get the adorable sleepy photos you see with younger infants (that said, we might just catch some beautiful eye contact and smiles if we wait until your baby is a little older!)
How long does it take? It depends! I expect to fit in about 90 minutes of actual photography time, but please don't worry about taking time to do what you need to do to care for your baby during the session. I always put your baby's needs first, and work to accommodate their schedule day of. This may mean I am at your home for just over an hour and a half, while other sessions may go for several hours.
Do you bring any props or clothing? Yes! I have a number of swaddles and blankets, a bassinet, and a few hats/headbands. My props collection is always growing, so be sure to ask. I also have a growing client closet, including limited newborn clothes (mostly casual and neutral tones, but several items may be brighter). If I don't have something you really love, let's chat. I do occasionally offer to add pieces my closet and props kit before you session, at no extra cost to you.
Erin Kirby Photography offers newborn photos at home, or at a local park.
It is hard enough being a new parent without having to load everything up and meet your photographer somewhere. For this reason, I offer your newborn photoshoot in the convenience of your own home.
When it comes to having someone work with your child, health and safety should always come first. Here is how I make your newborn's well being a priority:
Sanitizing- I sanitize my camera with wipes and my hands with hand sanitizer before entering your home, and do so again before putting my hands on your infant. I regularly use fabric safe lysol on my bassinet as well.
Washing materials- all swaddles and other washable items are freshly cleaned and prepackaged before each session. Any non-washable items are sanitized. Clean materials always remain stored in sealed totes when in my home.
Masking- Masking helps ensure any germs I am exposed to don't spread to your baby. While I always offer families the option to have me wear a mask for their sessions, for newborns this is my default.
Your money returned or your session rescheduled if I am sick- I will never show up to your home sick, and you will never be penalized if I need to cancel or reschedule.
Vaccines- I am vaccinated, and work hard to ensure I get my flu and COVID shots early in the season each year. I also keep up with my whooping cough vaccine.
Insurance- I am fully insured.
Hands Off- I give all families the option to do their sessions entirely hands off. In fact, this is the default! If you are not comfortable with me handling your infant, I will help you pose you so you can safely hold your newborn and still get beautiful photos.
Health and Safety Training- I have received training in reduction of infection risk from an industry leader in workplace health and safety training. Please feel free to ask me more!
Option to use only what you have at home- I do lifestyle newborn photographs, so that means no elaborate props are necessary. I am happy to leave my swaddles, bassinet, and client closet items at home and only use what you have in house!
Lifestyle photography is less risky than traditional newborn photography- Posing infants comes with risk to their fragile bodies. By doing lifestyle photos instead of heavily posed images, your baby stays safe in your arms, their crib, or their bassinet, while I capture beautiful images. While I may help swaddle your baby (with your consent), this is about the only 'manipulation' I do in my sessions.
Why do I take all of these steps?
Because I am a parent, too. I treat your family the way I hope a photographer would treat mine. I want you and your family to feel safe and comfortable in your home, because it is your home.
